How do I start?

What is cardio vascular endurance?

• Cardiovascular Endurance is the ability of the circulatory & respiratory system to supply oxygen during sustained physical activity i.e. aerobic fitness.

• To improve cardio-respiratory endurance try to do activities that keep your heart rate elevated at a safe level for a sustained length of time. This will help in making your heart stronger and your lungs healthier. Eg Walking/ Running/ Treadmill, Swimming, Cycling etc.

What is muscle strength & endurance?

• Muscle strength is the ability of the muscles to exert force during an actitvity.

• The key to making your muscles stronger is working them against resistance whether that be from weights or gravity. Eg Lifting weights, using resistance bands.

• Muscular endurance is the ability of the muscles to perform without fatigue.
• To improve this try doing cardio-respiratory activities like jogging, walking, dancing or cycling.

What is flexibility & how does it help?

• Flexibility is the ability of the body to bend or twist without causing an injury.
• Good flexibility in the joints can help prevent injuries thru all stages of life.
• Stretching and yoga often improves flexibility.

What is body compostion?

• Body composition refers to the percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle in human bodies.

• Because muscular tissue takes up less space in our body than fat tissue, our body composition, as well as our weight, determines leanness.

• Two people with the same body weight may look completely different because they have a different body composition.

What are some of the popular fitness trends?

• Strength Training is a vital part of a balanced exercise routine that includes aerobic activity and flexibility exercises. When you strength train with weights, you’re using your muscles to work against the extra pounds (this concept is called resistance).

• Strength training can also increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. It also helps manage weight and increases metabolism to help burn more calories.

• Functional training focuses on real life movements instead of using machines & exercise gadgets.

• Dance & fitness classes (Zumba, Pilates, Fusion) give a great workout and are fun to do in a group.

What are some alternative Exercises?

• Walking, running, weight training, swimming, yoga, hiking, dancing, biking, jumping ropes, skating, sports like football, badminton, tennis, hockey etc.

• Walk to work.
• Set some time-off for exercise.

Why do women need weights?

• Weights help increase bone density, reduce muscle loss and help to achieve a toned look. It maskes us stronger so that independently we can carry the heavy suitacases.

A lot of people feel that they do not have time for exercise.

• Bank, office, social responsibilities, mandal meetings, having guests at home. Many of us check whatsapp first thing in the morning.

• We can change our habbits and begin our mornings with exercise & mediation which will make us feel happy & energetic through the day. Make health a priority.

Do stroke, Diabetes, Thyroid, BP, PCOD happen only to the elderly?

• No, they can happen to anyone due to to lack of exercise.

Q. Fitness ke liye hum kya kar sakte hai?

• One can take up sports. One can do Yoga, Pilates, Fusion exercise can be done, these focus on general body strength with a large emphasis on flexibility and mind-body connections.

• One can join a gym where tailored exercise program suited to individual needs are provided.

Q. Kya 45-50 yrs ki lady gym bhi join kar sakti hai?

• Kyun nahi. Voh age mein ghutne dard, sugar, BP etc, chalu ho jata hai.

• Zumba, Aerobics can be done, sports khel sakte hai.

Q. How often should i exercise?

• Stop start routine is not going to be effective.

• Start with 20-30 min depending on your physical condition.

• Follow a safe & effective exercise program. Make workouts a key part of your schedule.

• Set achievable goals.
